NEW SCHOOL POLICIES 2008-2009 Grading System The scholastic year is divided into four quarters. the grade for each quarter is based on daily assignments, class participation, quizzes, and tests. Extra credit work assigned after the end of the quarter is not allowed. In the computation of the student's quarter, semester, and final grade, only the one-digit fraction of .5 or greater is automatically rouded to the next higher number. Semester grades are determined by averaging the two quarter numerical grade (80%) and the semester exam grade (20%). Semester Grade = .40 (Q1) + .40 (Q2) + .20 (Exam) The final grade in a full year course is the average of the two semester grades except when the student has a second semester failure in a course. When a student fails the second semester, the student's final grade will be determined after the student has passed the second semester in an approved summer school or as determined by the school administration. In order to receive credit in a semester course, a student must pass the second half of the course. If a student fails the second half of a semester course, the student will be required to make up the half-credit in an approved summer school or as determined by the school administration. Attendance Students are obliged to attend all classes every day school is in sesson (State Attendance Policy Bulletin 741) and to arrive at school on time. The school policy on attendance allows twenty (20) days of absence from school per year or ten (10) per semester. Absences beyond twenty (20) for the year or ten (10) per semester may result in the loss of academic credit for that course.
