Admission FAQs - Describe the school day.
School begins at 7:35 and ends at 2:34. We begin each day with morning prayer followed by announcements and Channel One.
- How is lunch served in the cafeteria?
The basic school lunch is $1.72. Students have a choice of two lines – a hot lunch or cold lunch (sandwich), or they can purchase a slice of pizza or French fries. For an additional cost, students may purchase “extras” such as bottled water, milkshakes, fries, etc.
- Does STM provide transportation?
STM does not offer bus transportation, but a carpooling network is available through our development office – 988-2550.
- What parking & security does STM offer?
STM provides parking for all students who purchase a parking permit. Seniors have privileged parking in the shell lot across from the school as well as the front section of the concrete lot. The remainder of the parking lot along the side of the school is available to those students obtaining a parking permit. STM employs a security guard to monitor traffic entering and exiting the school lot form 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- How early/late can I drop off/ pick up my child?
The library is open form 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students left on campus after 4:00 p.m. will not be supervised.
- What about lockers?
Each student is provided a personal locker. The student is responsible to bring a lock for his/her locker and to KEEP IT LOCKED AT ALL TIMES. Sharing lockers is not encouraged.
- How much are textbooks?
STM receives some funding for textbooks. Religion textbooks, Advanced Placement books, Vocabulary and other workbooks must be purchased on Orientation Day. Parents will receive a fee list in the Summer Newsletter.
- Describe the Work/Study Program.
STM does not grant full tuition waivers. However, those in financial need may apply for partial tuition reduction through the school’s work/study program. Applications for these reductions at available registration and are reviewed in mid-April. Work/study grants are based solely on financial need and reductions apply to tuition only. All fees must be paid in full.
- Does STM award scholarships?
The Yvonne B. Jumonville Scholarship is awarded to one incoming ninth grader based on scholastic achievement as well as school and community service. The Harry Greig Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one incoming ninth grade band student.
- Are athletic scholarships offered?
St. Thomas More High School supports the policies of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. In doing so, St. Thomas More High School may not promise or offer athletic scholarships of any kind. Violations may result in loss of eligibility for the student, coach and/or school.
- Explain athletic eligibility requirements.
All incoming ninth graders are eligible to play on Freshman teams. In order for a student to participate in JV or Varsity sports, he/she must reside in the Comeaux High School District. All transfer students must reside in the Comeaux High District or sit out for ONE CALENDAR YEAR from the date of enrollment. These students may work out and practice with the team but are not eligible to play in any games.
- How are students placed in Honors/ AP classes?
Honors/ AP placement is based on the student’s grades in previous years as well as standardized test scores. Incoming ninth graders must score in the 90th percentile to schedule Honors classes.
